THE
LOCATION
Vourvourou is
a village by
the sea. It is
a resort of
the municipality of
Sithonia. It is a settlement of
Agios Nikolaos in the prefecture
of Halkidiki. It produces
oil, honey, tsipouro ( a
local drink similar
to ouzo ), wine and
fish. The economy is
based on the
tourist industry. The beaches
of Vourvourou ( Vourvrourou, Livari, Xifara, Karidi, Bara, fava ) in
addition to the
natural beauties of
it attract many
visitors each year.
Diaporos Island
Opposite of
Vourvourou and very
close to the
shore, there is a
complex of nine
islands, with Diaporos being
the biggest and
the most important.
Diaporos is a
quite a big
island, with a huge
natural gulf , kryftos, which
is more
than 700 metres long. Kryftos is a
safe place for
boats and ships
when the sea
becomes rough. The gulf
ends in shallow
waters, which are always
warm and therefore
ideal for those
who enjoy winter
swimming. The biggest part
of the island
is covered with pine
